    Riccardo Vinciguerra is Ophthalmologist and Scientific Responsible at the Humanitas University, Italy. 

    Dr. Vinciguerra, before returning to Milan, worked as a Cornea Consultant at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Center, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, UK. He is currently also a research collaborator at the Biomechanical Engineering Group, University of Liverpool, UK.

    Miguel Ángel Teus  is Professor and chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Alcalá school of medicine and is medical director at Clinica Novovisión, Madrid, Spain.

    Graduated with Extraordinary Award for Academic Excellence in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valladolid, in 1982.

    Ophthalmology Resident, MIR program, at Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid.

    Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alcalá, with a doctoral thesis titled "Short- and Medium-Term Modifications of Intraocular Pressure after Laser Trabeculoplasty in Glaucoma," 1993.

    Erik L Mertens

    MD, FEBOphth. Physician CEO.

    Erik L. Mertens, MD, FEBOphth currently serves as the Director and Ophthalmic Surgeon of the Medipolis Eye Center in Belgium.

    Dr. Mertens graduated form the University of Antwerp in 1991. He then followed his residency in ophthalmology from 1991-1995 studying refractive surgery, wavefront aberration laser surgery, phakic IOL, cataract surgery, cornea transplant and presbyopia reversal.

    He founded a new multidisciplinary clinic named 'Medipolis Private Antwerp Clinic’ in 2009 (Antwerp, Belgium). Medipolis is the only  ophthalmogical center in Belgium which obtained the rigorous KIWA certificate.
    He graduated from the Kellogg School of Management, Evanston, USA as Physician CEO in October 2015.

    Dr. Mertens has utilized his expertise to become a specialist in the fields of refractive surgery as well as small incision cataract surgery. His extensive refractive surgery experience has led him to be the author of over 400 abstracts in national and international congresses and make over 600 scientific presentations both nationally and internationally.


    Dr. Mertens is chief medical editor for the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today. He also serves as an International Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Refractive Surgery and ‘World Journal of Ophthalmology’. He is a scientific reviewer for the ‘Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’, the ‘American Journal of Ophthalmology’ and the ‘Journal of
    Refractive Surgery’.

    Dr. Mertens is a member of a variety of societies including a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO), a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS), the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), and an International Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and co-founder of AECOS (American-European college of Ophthalmic Surgeons) and president AECOS Europe (2019-2021). He is a member of the prestigious International Intra-Ocular Implant Club and of the board of ‘Refractive Surgery Alliance’. He also performs live surgery at national and international congresses.


    He is a consultant to STAAR Surgical, PhysIOL, Ellex, Allotex, Ophtec, Hoya, Zeiss, Tearlab, Medicontur, MST, Excel-Lens and Optovue. He is the lead instructor and moderator of several courses on premium IOL and phakic IOL implantation. He performed the first femtosecond laser cataract surgery in Belgium in September 2012 and in total more than 5000 FLACS cases. He received the ‘ASCRS film festival award’ for the best video in the field of refractive surgery at the 2004 Symposium of the ‘American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’ and was the ‘2005 Arthur Culler Memorial Lecturer’ at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.

    He recently received the price at OB 2019 for ‘best rapid fire presentation’ during the Belgian Ophthalmology Congress (Early clinical experience with a new Selective Laser Capsulotomy (SLC) device). He implanted the first worldwide commercially available Visian EVO VIVA ICL in October 2020.

  • Paolo Vinciguerra

    Prof. Paolo Vinciguerra obtained his Medical Degree at the University of Milan in March 1982 and then his Ophthalmology Degree (1982-1986).

    He is President of the Italian Cataract and Refractive Surgery Society (AICCER), Past-President of the Italian Association of Private Hospitals (OPI) , member Board of Italian Society of Cornea, Stem Cells and Ocular Surface (SICSSO).

    He has been an Honorary Member of the Italian Ophthalmology Society (since 1995) and an Honorary Member of the Italian Society for Corneal Transplants (SITRAC) since 2004.

    He has been a member of the International Council of the International Society of Refractive Surgery-American Academy (ISRS-AAO) since 2004.

    As a pioneer of refractive surgery working with scientific institutes and ophthalmology companies engaged in development and research into technological innovations, Prof. Vinciguerra, M.D., has filed numerous patents in both Europe and the rest of the world

  • Adil El Maftouhi

    Adil El Maftouhi

    Mr. Adil El Maftouhi is Orthoptist and Ocular imaging specialist in Centre Ophtalmologique de Rive Geneva, Switzerland and in CHNO XV-XX Paris, France. He is the author of international books on OCT and OCT-A. He has also published several peer-reviewed articles like "OCT and dry eye syndrome" and « OCT : the intelligence of the epithelium ».

    Adil El Maftouhi works on the development and operation of the various imaging systems available in Ophthalmology to exploit the potential of each system for the benefit of the clinic.

    At the same time, he contributes to the development of new imaging applications and software, particularly on OCT technology. Mr. El Maftouhi also participates in clinical and pharmacological research projects in the field of medical retina, glaucoma and low vision.

     

     

  • Robert Rothstein

    Robert Rothstein

    Dr. Robert Rothstein is the founder of Eyenamics NY. Dr. Rothstein is a board certified Ophthalmologist specializing in Glaucoma, Neuro-ophthalmology, and Cataract, Surgery.

    A native New Yorker, Dr. Rothstein went to Stuyvesant High School. He completed the prestigious combined BA/MD program at Brooklyn College and SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He finished his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He went on to complete two fellowships, the first at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary specializing in glaucoma under the supervision of Dr. Robert Ritch and Dr. Jeffrey Liebmann and the second at SUNY Downstate Medical Center specializing in neuro-ophthalmology under the tutelage of Dr. Arthur H. Wolintz.

    Dr. Rothstein has trained ophthalmology residents at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and has taught optometry students at the SUNY College of Optometry. He is an attending surgeon at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Rothstein is a member of the New York Glaucoma Society, the American Glaucoma Society, the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

    Dr. Rothstein has cutting edge expertise in neuro-ophthalmology. He has a multidisciplinary approach and coordinates care with experts in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, oculoplastic surgery, neuroradiology, interventional neuroradiology, endocrinology and rheumatology. He has over twenty years of experience in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and he continues to integrate the newest modalities of treatment in his practice. Dr. Rothstein also specializes in cataract surgery offering the state of the art in care including femtosecond assisted cataract surgery and premium intraocular lenses.

    Dr. Rothstein is fluent in Hebrew and Hungarian. He has interests in comparative religion and theology, liturgical music, and political philosophy and history. When he’s not practicing ophthalmology, he spends his time sketching and drawing.
